12 hawthorn saplings, guitar etc..........
20 performers from integrated company Independance from Glasgow,
company in residence at the Tramway (adults of all ages who through
the Glasgow care system have become involved in dance performance).A commission
for ECOS, a circular arrangement of 12 large archetypal stones
from different European countries. ECOS is a parlaiment of stones created
for cultural events and exchange by artist Barry Cooper, the space
with its terraces and steps presents a physical challenge to the performers.
Barnaby Oliver plays guitar with pieces of stone, wood and metal.
A score is developed in which performers circumnavigate the uneven terrain
of the space and return to the beginning, where they greet the audience
and give gifts of hawthorn trees. An ode to the coming of Spring and the
opening of the heart.
