Dougie Hanton (designed by Whitehead's grandfather Harry Coxon), two hawthorn
trees, horsehair, blackthorn branches, plastic farm animals, CD players,
sound processing (Electroharmonix Bigmuff), guitar, guitar amplifier,
amplification, microphones (2x PZM)
spring 1999. A research commission awarded by Chisenhale Dance
Space, part resourced by the Bonnie Bird Award for Choreography, Laban
Centre London. Beginning with a 4 day workshop / retreat with 12 dance
artists in Tycanol woodland, Preseli hills Wales. Sound gathered from
woods, material transported to Chisenhale. Over 4 days an interactive
installation built in space, doors and windows open; sounds of city and
skyline incorporated into work. Open over 2 days, visitors book 15 min
slots and invite a guest, groups of dancers improvise in the space, a
group of children and parents explore. Culminates with 20 min performance
at twilight of last day, black plastic horse left on table.
