Kevin Coyne
The death of Kevin Coyne is a huge blow to generations of music fans, from John Peel to Johnny Rotten.
England`s answer to Captain Beefheart was also a successful author and painter, and even turned down the
offer of replacing Jim Morrison in the Doors.
Kevin was the father of singer Eugene Coyne and Venus Ray`s Robert Coyne, who also played together as
Silver Chapter and Mean Vincent. Rob toured regularly with his father, and co-wrote and performed on all his
recent albums.

Our friends at the Dirty Water Club have swiftly arranged another show for Sky Saxon this Friday, whilst members of Venus Ray and The Scoundrelles reincarnate The Seeds behind him. They’re also recording an album together for release early next year.
Anyone who saw Monday’s show will know to expect a mixture of awesome hits and floundering misses, but when it hits it’ll certainly be spectacular. Or, like Sky, you could drop some acid and it’ll all be transcendent.
Plus another top recommendation for your tired ears, and the ‘Cudas film at Portobello Film Festival.

Ridiculously underrated London pop-rock combo the Ray kick out deliciously
droney space-garage-pop, flavored with a touch of dubby synthedelia for that
little something extra.

A great night in store this Saturday as Venus Ray join Vic Godard and
Subway Sect under the wings of PennyBlack Music.
With the irreplaceable Barney Oliver on an extended walkabout in the
Australian outback, the show will mark the Venus Ray debuts of newcomers Jake
Tassell on toy organ, sartorials and electronics and Gavin Mulcahy
on the bass guitar. Venus Ray will be unveiling songs from their forthcoming
3rd album, due out in August.
The Spitz is a great venue with restaurant and art gallery, 5 mins from Liverpool
St and Brick Lanes finest eateries. Should be fine just turning up on
the door, but it seems you can reserve tickets by calling Spitz Box Office and
pay for them when you pick em up on the night. More details below.

Vic Godard's leading position in the Subway Sect placed him squarely in the
eye of the storm of the emerging punk scene back in 1976, working with the likes
of now legendary manager Malcolm MacLaren and sharing stages with The
Clash, The Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks. Subsequent years saw
him turn to Northern Soul, swing, beatnik jazz and rockabilly.
If NASA found a garage on the moon, Venus Ray are the band who would be playing
inside. Their second album The World Woke Up Without Me took their garage-rocking,
Joe Meek-style soundclash into previously uncharted territory. Venus Ray
rock like Clinic with a youthful Lou Reed on vocals NME.

The band have been busy recording in a dingy North London studio, laying
down a Herculean 35 tracks in 3 days. The resulting material is now at
the Negative Sonic Laboratory being processed into the next VR release.
